What is Integrative Physical Therapy?
Integrative physical therapy combines yogic philosophy and principles with physical therapy to help you feel your best throughout your pregnancy and beyond. Each session is individually tailored to your needs and goals.
What does a session look like?
Each session is unique to you. Things your session may include are manual therapies, massage, movement and exercise, education, meditation, breathing, and yoga asana practice. We will meet for 60 minutes and you will always work with Megan.
How often will I be seen?
It really depends on each person. On average, I work with my clients weekly or every other week for 8-12 sessions. This does vary with some clients only needing a couple of sessions and others being seen for much longer durations of time.
What about after I give birth?
I am a specialized therapist working with pelvic floor dysfunction and diastasis recti. I will see women around 6-8 weeks after giving birth to help resolve symptoms like peeing with certain exercises, feeling pressure down there, constipation, pain in the low back and hips, diastasis recti, painful or tight scar tissue, weakness in the core, and much more. I also work with some women sooner who wish to get moving and have expert guidance.
Things just don’t feel the same in my yoga class, can you help with that?
Yes! I love working with clients to break down their yoga practice and figure out where we can make some changes. Instead of lots of ‘homework’, I like to give my clients ideas to take into their next yoga class or workout!
Are you just going to tell me to stop running, taking the hard classes, etc?
No. It is important that I get to know you and understand what motivates you. I rarely have someone cut out their favorite exercises unless I have a good reason (like risk of further injury). My goal is to help you feel better so you can keep doing what you love!
Where are you located?
Honest Soul Yoga in the Kingstown area of Alexandria, VA. House-calls in Old Town and Del Ray.
What is the cost?
Before I get to the answer, think about what you are already spending to prepare for your little one’s arrival. Feeling your best and getting your body to a place where you feel whole is one of the greatest investments in self you can make. Filling your cup first, allows you to serve others in your life. Spending a little up front to feel well and learn how to continue supporting your body will pay off in large ways over the long term.
What do I mean by that? Often, I will see women 5-10 years down the road for symptoms that began during pregnancy or shortly after. By the time I see these women, they have often given up what they love (like yoga, running, and playing with their kids) and they have invested countless dollars in short term solutions for their pain. What I am offering is a more comprehensive service that will allow you to take the driver’s seat in your own health and wellbeing. I often check in with clients 3-6 months after we have finished care and they are still feeling great. They are confident in the strategies that they learned and have some go-to ideas for when symptoms flare up. Consider this as a true investment in your lifelong health and wellbeing.
Individual session and package prices available. Home visits available.
Do you take insurance?
My practice is unique in the amount of time and attention each one of my clients receive. Because of this, I do not have the ability or resources to contract with each individual insurance company. However, many companies do have some level of reimbursement for out of network care. Consider this icing on the cake. You have already decided to invest in yourself and maybe you will even get some money back from your insurance!
I heard that Tricare covers some of your services, is that true?
I love working with my military clients. I am a proud military spouse so I know this system both as a provider and a patient. If you have Tricare Select (formerly Standard), then Yes! A significant portion of each session will be reimbursed. I will be happy to give you the simple instructions on how to file when you schedule your first appointment. If you have Tricare Prime, there is a way to receive some reimbursement for services through the Point of Service option. I’m also happy to provide you with details about this.
Do I need a referral from my Doctor?
Virginia has what is known as Direct Access. This means that no, you do not need a referral. Once we have our first session, I will mail your doctor a copy of the evaluation and they will typically sign off so that you can continue your care.
How can I pay?
Credit card, check, cash, Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), or any other medical benefits card that allows you to swipe like a credit card.
I'm ready to get started!
First, we will set up a time to talk on the phone or in person. Please call me at 317-446-8047 or email. You can also schedule online.
